The station is located southeast of the junction of Botchergate (east) English Street (west and the Crescent (north/south). The Crescent curves west, past the station building to become Borough Street which lies beyond the scope of this survey.
Court Square lies between the southeast corner of the junction and the station and, as such forms the station forecourt, outside the main entrance.
English Street continues west from the junction to join The Victoria Viaduct which runs south, over the rail bridge, past the other entrance to the station. The rail bridge effectively marks the western boundary of the station, we'll call this the west bridge in the context of this guide.
There are two entrances/exits. The main entrance is from Court Square, to the north of the station, via the booking hall onto platforms 4 - 8, whilst the other is via a ramp from the Victoria Viaduct, to the west, onto platforms 1 and 3.
As you leave the Victoria Viaduct, going east, you pass a post and a wall, which is followed by a wooden fence. The pavement is along the left-hand (north) side of the road.
The ramp slopes down east with a wall beyond the wooden fence to the left (north). There are lights above the fence, whilst there's a metal barrier between the pavement and roadway.
The foot of the ramp is in the middle of the island platform, towards the west end. Platform 1 is to your right, platform 3 to your left.
This is a two-stage crossing with tactile paving but no sounder. The post with push button and rotating cone is to your right for each stage in either direction. There are railings around most of the central island, you need to move to your right a little way before crossing the second stage.
