Note that there is escalator-only access to the Strand concourse, though there is stairs and escalator access via the Trafalgar Square concourse.
Note that all exits from the Strand concourse, except that to the mainline station, close at 21:45, as does the Cockspur Street exit from the Trafalgar Square concourse.
The train doors will open on your right as you face the front of the train. There is tactile paving along the edge of all platforms in this station.
From the Bakerloo Line, Platforms 1 - 2 From the Northern Line, Platforms 5 - 6 |
The exit from these platforms is from the front end of the southbound, platform 2.
From the northbound, platform 1, go through one of the gaps onto platform 2 and turn right.
On platform 2, continue beyond the front of the southbound train, up a flight of steps to the intermediate level.
To the Trafalgar Square Concourse To the Strand Concourse |
Take the first turning left and continue towards the escalators. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, alternatively, you can go up the central stairs. Go up to the concourse.
Follow the passage, which turns left before veering left then right again. Take the first turning right then turn left towards the escalators. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need. Go up to the concourse.
The exit is the second passage from the rear of northbound, front of southbound trains. Go into this passage then tirn right (from northbound) or left (from southbound). Go up a flight of steps to the intermediate level and turn right.
To the Strand Concourse To the Trafalgar Square Concourse |
Take the first turning left then turn left again towards the escalators. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need. Go up to the concourse.
Follow this long passage, which veers left then right again, before the sharp right turn towards the end. Take the second turning right. If you find downward steps in front of you, you've overshot. Continue towards the escalators. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need, alternatively, you can go up the central stairs.
As you reach concourse level, the gate line is to your left. As you face the gate line, the manual gate is at the right-hand end and the automatic exits at the left. Go through the gates.
To the Trafalgar Square Subway To the Cockspur Street Exit |
Turn right, if you find the wall in front of you, move to your left then continue into the subway. You can take the first turning right and go up a flight of steps to Trafalgar Square. Otherwise, continue along the passage. This passage is divided into two by a central rail, keep left. Go up seven steps just before the end. From here you can turn right towards the Strand, or left to Trafalgar Square. In either case, you go up two flights of steps to pavement level.
Turn left and follow the passage, which veers right before you reach the steps at the end. Go up two flights of steps to street level.
As you reach concourse level, the exit gates are in front of you with a Wide Aisle exit gate at the left-hand end of the gate line. Go through the gates.
There are two exits from this concourse into the subway under the Strand. The one in front of you leads towards exits 7 - 9; whilst the one to your right leads towards exits 1 - 6.

You're aiming for the recess in the right-hand wall. turn right, continue to the wall then turn left and take the turning right.
Turn left and continue to the end of the passage. Turn left for exit 1, Strand South, right for exit 2, Villiers Street. In either case, go up two flights of steps to street level. Note that, at the time of our survey, the left-hand rail started beyond the foot of the steps, whilst the right-hand rail stopped short of the top.
Turn right, go up two flights of steps, with a wide landing between, turn left (180 degrees) then go up two more flights of steps to street level.
Turn right, continue to the wall then turn right again and follow the left-hand side. Take the first turning left, towards the escalator. Note that there is stairs-access to your right of the escalator, though this is normally the exit from the station. Go to the mainline station.
Turn right, leave the concourse then turn right again and continue to the wall before turning right again into the passage. Continue, up two flights of steps to street level.
Turn right, leave the concourse then turn right again. Follow the right-hand side, round to your right then continue, up a flight of steps. Move slightly right then go up another flight of steps to street level.
Continue forward, leaving the concourse and follow the left-hand side round slightly left into the passage.
Take the turning left and continue, up three flights of steps to street level.
Continue, ignoring the turning left, to the end of the passage. You may need to move slightly right to avoid the shop at the junction.
At the end of the passage, go up a flight of steps, turn left (180 degrees) then go up another flight. Turn left again (180 degrees) and go up a flight of steps to street level.
Take the turning right and go up two flights of steps to street level.
