CHANGE PLATFORMS

Overview

This section describes routes between the two island platforms of the London Underground and four island platforms of the mainline sections of this station.

The northbound Piccadilly and Victoria Line share an island platform, as do the westbound Piccadilly and southbound Victoria lines. There are six passages between the platforms of each island.

Since people are asked to keep left through this station, we recommend that changes from southbound to northbound be made via the passages nearest the front of southbound to the rear of northbound trains, whilst changes from northbound to southbound will be made via the third passage from the end of the platforms.

Each island platform is connected by stairs to the intermediate level. Stairs down to the London Underground platforms leave from the north side of this passage, with the southbound lying east of the northbound. Stairs up to the mainline platforms 1 - 2 also leave from the north side of this passage, whilst those to platforms 3 - 8 leave from the south side. The mainline platforms are numbered 1 - 8 from the east.

From the Mainline

The stairs to the intermediate level leave from about the middle of each island platform. The stair well, on platforms 3 - 8, is surrounded by distinctive metal railings through which the stairs leave from the south side. On the new platforms 1 - 2, we understand the stairs leave from the north side of the stair well, we have no more details at this time.

From platform 1 - 2, continue down two flights of steps, going south, into the intermediate level then turn right. The first turning right leads to the southbound, whilst the second leads to the northbound Underground platforms.

From platforms 3 - 8, you go, north, down two flights of stairs to the intermediate level. The stairs to the London Underground leave from the opposite side of the passage so that those to the northbound, platforms 1 - 2, are to your left of those to platforms 3 - 4. If there's no-one about, it may be worth going to one end of the passage and coming back again to be sure you've found the right stairs as there are no distinguishing marks en route between the two.

For the Northbound, Platforms 1 - 2

Go down three flights of stairs, spiralling anti-clockwise, continue to the passage between the platforms. Platform 1, Piccadilly Line northbound, is on your left; platform 2, Victoria Line northbound is on your right, you're beside the front half of the train.

For the Southbound, Platforms 3 - 4

Go down three flights of stairs, spiralling anti-clockwise, continue to the passage between the platforms. Platform 3, Piccadilly Line westbound, is on your left; platform 4, Victoria Line southbound is on your right, you're beside the rear half of the train.
