This is a through station on the Circle and District lines, which run approximately east/west through the station.
The station is located at the point where the Circle Line curves sharply from east/west along the river bank to north/south through Aldgate. For convenience, we'll refer to the platforms as running east/west, although there is a marked curve along their length.
There are three platforms, numbered 1 - 3 from the south. Platforms 1 - 2 share an island platform with platform 1, District Line westbound lying south of platform 2, Circle Line westbound. Platform 3 is a separate platform along the north side of the station, serving eastbound trains for the Circle and District lines.
This station has two concourses, the exit concourse lies northeast of the entrance concourse, at a slightly higher level (up nine steps). Although there is no entry through the exit concourse, we found some exit gates in the entrance concourse. Signs at platform level indicated "exit in emergency".
There is stairs-only access between each concourse and the platforms, such that the exit steps are towards the east end, whilst the entrance steps are towards the west.
There is stairs-only access through this station. We therefore believe the station is accessible to Guide Dog users, but not to wheelchairs.
