THE BAKERLOO LINE PLATFORMS |
DESCRIBE ONLINE |
These are separate platforms, at different levels such that the northbound, platform 3 lies at a lower level than and slightly southwest of the southbound, platform 4.
The platforms curve through the station as part of their curve between Embankment, north of west and Lambeth North, to the south. The platforms are staggered such that the southbound platform is located slightly behind (anti-clockwise round the curve from) the northbound.
There is tactile paving along the edge of each platform.
Note that there is step-free access between the intermediate level and the southbound platform.
From the entrance to southbound, the first passage leading southwest from the foot of the escalators from the Shell Centre entrance, (which is the third passage on your left from the foot of the escalators from the Underground concourse), you leave the intermediate level concourse, going southwest, up a slope with a rail to each side, onto the platform near the rear of the train.
Enter the second passage, leading southwest, from the foot of the escalator from the Shell Centre concourse, (which is the second passage on your left from the foot of the escalators from the Underground concourse), follow the right-hand side, turn right (northwest), past a map of the Bakerloo Line on your left, then turn left again (southeast). Go down 11 steps, going southwest, down a slope, then up a slope onto the platform. There’s a metal barrier in front of you. You’re beside the front of the train.
Note that you could continue, past the right turn, up nine steps onto the southbound, platform 4. This is the second passage from the rear of the train.
Although this is signed as an entrance from the intermediate level concourse, it's signed as an exit from this platform. You leave going northeast, there's a rail each side, go down nine steps, going northeast. Continue northeast, past the entrance to the northbound and a blank door on your left, into the intermediate level concourse. This is the second passage on your right from the foot of the escalator from the Shell Centre concourse, the second on your left from the foot of the escalators from the Underground concourse.

This is the first passage on your left from the foot of the escalators from the Underground concourse.

There are three entrances/exits from this platform. We'll consider that nearest the front of the train as the entrance, whilst the other two can be regarded as exits. Suffice to say, the signage is misleading. We understand the exit nearest the rear of the train was intended for the former Eurostar section of the station, though you can continue into the intermediate level concourse.

There are four entrances/exits from this platform. The one nearest the rear of the train is an entrance from the intermediate level concourse, whilst the second offers a route via steps to the intermediate level concourse and northbound platform. We presume the remaining two are exits, though the signage is misleading, including a reference to British Rail! We understand that the exit nearest the front of the train was intended for the former Eurostar section of the station, though this does offer a step-free route to the intermediate level concourse.
