The main stop on the Metrolink system is located underneath Manchester Piccadilly railway station. From here trams depart every few minutes travelling to Piccadilly Gardens where there is a major bus interchange and then they head out either through the city centre towards Altrincham or Eccles in one direction or towards Bury in the other. Altrincham and Eccles trams start and terminate at Piccadilly, whilst those heading for Bury start and terminate at Droylsden. On Mondays-Saturdays there is also a direct service linking Altrincham and Bury, which bypasses Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly station altogether. Another service operates between Rochdale Railway Station and St Werburgh's Road and runs via Manchester Victoria station.
For the purposes of clarity, we have shown all five routes: from Piccadilly to Altrincham, from Piccadilly to Eccles, from Droylsden to Bury, from Altrincham to Bury and from Rochdale to St Werburgh's Road.
Metrolink currently proposes closing two tram stops, those at Mosley Street and Woodlands Road and these are marked with (XX). Trams now only stop at Woodlands Road between 10.00-16.00 Monday-Friday and run through without stopping at all other times. You are advised to use the new stop at Abraham Moss instead. The stop at Oldham Mumps is also marked with (XX), as this is to be demolished in 2014, when the new line through Oldham town centre opens.
Queens Road tram stop on the line to Bury, which used to be a staff halt for the nearby tram depot is being converted in to a full Metrolink stop to open in 2013. This is shown by (**).
Metrolink is in the midst of a major expansion programme with several new lines scheduled to open between 2011-2016. The map and National Tramways and Metros station finder will be updated accordingly whenever a new line becomes operational, so please be sure to visit these pages regularly.
