THE VICTORIA LINE PLATFORMS 3 AND 4 |
DESCRIBE ONLINE |
We understand these platforms run approximately east from this station. There is escalator access from the Tube Concourse at the near (west) end plus lift and stairs access from the Northern Concourse at the east. A passage leads from the foot of the escalators at the west end to the Piccadilly and then to the Northern Line.
Stairs access to street level is via the Pentonville Road exit at the far end of the platforms.
Unlike most island platforms, train doors open on the left.
There is no tactile paving along the edge of these platforms.
You go down the right-hand (south)escalators, going east, to platform level. The left-hand escalator is normally the one you need. Platform 3, northbound is to your right, whilst platform 4, southbound is to your left.
There is escalator/stairs and lift access between the Northern Concourse and Victoria Line.
From the Northern Concourse (Level -1) locate the escalators to Level -2, the left-hand one is normally the one you need, go down to Level -2, continue forward a few metres then take the turning left (east). Follow the passage, past the escalators to the Piccadilly Line. The passage veers left then right twice (south). You reach the junction where the steps from the original Pentonville road entrance lead down east, whilst the new lift and stairs entrance leads right (west).
Taking the left turning, you pass an information board to each side, before going down 10 then 11 steps to platform level. Platform 3, northbound is to your right, platform 4, southbound to your left. You're at the far (east) end of the platforms.
Taking the right turning:

You go down ten then ten steps, going west, to platform level. There’s tactile flooring at the top and bottom of these steps, which are divided by a central rail, keep left. The landing between these flights seemed longer than usual.
At the foot of the steps, there's a single entrance to each platform, platform 3 northbound is to your left, whilst platform 4, southbound is to your right. You're in the second passage from the far (east) end of the platform.
There's a help point, on the far wall, opposite the space between the steps and the lift.
Note that the main passage continues to the Pentonville Road exit.
See the lifts page for details of the lifts in this station.
Locate the lift beside the escalators to Level -2 in the Northern Concourse and go to Level -2. Leave via the other doors, go forward a few metres then take the turning left, towards the Piccadilly and Victoria Lines. Follow the passage, past the escalators to the Piccadilly Line. The passage veers left then right twice (south). You reach the junction where the steps from the original Pentonville road entrance lead down east, whilst the new lift and stairs entrance leads right (west).
Take the turning right, the passage to the lift is to your left of the steps. Go down to platform level.
At platform level, platform 3 northbound is to your left, whilst platform 4, southbound is to your right. You're in the second passage from the far (east) end of the platforms.
This consists of the west section, at the foot of the escalators from the Tube Concourse, plus the two passages from the foot of the steps and lift from the Northern Concourse, which we'll call the east section.
