Overview

The doors will open on your left as you face the front of the train. There is no tactile paving along the edge of the platforms.

Since this is the first station out from Charing Cross, we'll assume that people entering the station will need the outbound platforms A and C, whilst those leaving will have arrived on the inbound platforms B and D. In the less likely event that you won't do this, note that:

• platforms B and C share an island platform with a straight ramp up to the concourse;
• platform A is a single platform with a straight ramp up to the concourse;
• platform D is a single platform with a ramp to a landing off the route to platforms B and C.

To Which Exit?

To Waterloo Mainline Station

Get off the train, turn right and continue, up the ramp to concourse level. If you reach a blank wall in front of you before you reach the concourse, you've arrived on platform D, turn right then take the turning left and continue into the concourse.

Turn left, take the turning right and follow the passage, over the foot bridge to Waterloo Mainline Station. At the end of this foot bridge, there are stairs to either side of the two escalators, the downward escalator is normally the left-hand one. Go down into the mainlline concourse.

If you need the lift, take the turning left, just before the stairs and escalators and locate the lift door on your right. The call button is to your right of the door and the controls inside the lift are on the near side, to your left as you enter. Go down into the mainline concourse.

To Southwark Underground Station

Get off the train, turn left and continue to the steps into the subway.

On Platform B

If you arrived on platform B, the steps are in the middle of the platform, go down two flights of steps then turn right. Continue forward to the foot of the steps from platform D, or the wall, in front of you then move left to enter the west concourse of Southwark Underground Station.

On Platform D

If you arrived on platform D, keep right and go up the two steps, then turn right. You go down a flight of steps, turn right, down another flight, then right again and down the third flight, into the subway. turn right then right again into the west concourse of Southwark Underground Station.

To Sandell Street

Get off the train, turn right and continue, up the ramp to concourse level. If you reach a blank wall in front of you before you reach the concourse, you've arrived on platform D, turn right then take the turning left and continue into the concourse.

Turn left, take the turning right towards the foot bridge then take the turning left, towards the exit. Follow the stairs down (79 steps in all) to street level (see the Environs page for details). At the foot of the steps, you're on the northwest side of Sandell Street, near the junction with Waterloo Road/Mepham Street.
