Overview

There are five public fire exits from the building, one from each of the four cores and the other from the VIP Lift Foyer at Level 0.

The West Fire Exit

This is adjacent to the Main (VIP) Lift.

From Level 3

You leave the Level 3 VIP Lift Foyer through push double doors, going south. Immediately to your right are steps up to the roof space, which are not for public use, beyond these are the steps down.

You go down nine steps, going west onto a rectangular landing. Turn right (180 degrees, east) go down eight steps, going east onto a rectangular landing with a blank door in the east wall. Turn right (180 degrees, west) go down nine steps, going west onto a rectangular landing. Turn right (180 degrees, east) go down nine steps, going east onto the rectangular landing at Level 1.

From Level 1

You leave the Level 1 VIP Lift Foyer through push double doors, going south. Immediately on your right are the steps down from higher levels, the steps down are beyond these.

You go down 16 steps, going west onto a rectangular landing. Turn right (180 degrees, east), go down 11 steps, going east. Turn right (south) towards the doors, with crash bars, onto Morrison Street.

Note these are west of the doors from the Level 0 VIP Lift Foyer.

The VIP Lift Fire Exit

This allows emergency exit from Level 0. You leave the VIP Lift Foyer at Level 0, down the ramp going out (south) onto Morrison Street.

The South Fire Exit

At Level 0

As you move away from the Main Entrance, you pass the Coffee Pod on your right, then turn right.

You go through one of the push single doors going (southeast). Bear right (south), go down three steps going south, with a hand rail to each side. Continue (south) through push double doors.

You're on a rectangular landing with:

North Side

East and South Sides

West Side, Going South

You go up seven steps, going west to a landing. The two sets of double fire doors, with crash bars, are to your left (south), leading onto Morrison Street. There’s a blank door on the west side of this landing.

North Side

East Side, Going South

From Level 3

The doors, separated by a pillar, are opposite the east end of the Level 3 Link Passage.

Go through either push door going southeast, bear rightt (south) then through push double doors, going south, to the stairwell.

The downward stairs are immediately to your right, followed by the stairs from the roof space.

You go down nine steps, going west. Turn left (180 degrees, east) go down eight steps, going east. Turn left (180 degrees, west) go down nine steps, going west. Turn left (180 degrees, east) go down nine steps, going east, to Level 1.

At Level 1

The doors, separated by a pillar, are opposite the Ochill Rooms.

You go through either push door going southeast, bear right (south) through push double doors into the stairwell.

As you continue south you pass the downward stairs then the upward stairs on your right (west). There are blank walls around this landing.

You go down seven steps going west into a rectangular landing. Turn left (180 degrees, east), go down seven steps, going east into another rectangular landing. Turn left (180 degrees, west), go down seven steps, going west to the rectangular landing with the switch gear on your right (north). Turn left for the fire doors onto Morrison Street.

The East Fire Exit

Note that this exit is only available to the Public from levels 0 and 3.

At Level 0

The doors are between the first and second entrances to the Kilsyth Room. You go through a single push door, going northeast, then through double push doors then turn right (east) towards the exit doors into Ladyfield Walk.

East Side, Going North

At Level 3

The two exit doors, separated by a pillar are in the north segment of the East Passage, outside Door 8 to the Pentland Auditorium.

Go through either door, going northeast, bear right past two fire extinguishers, then turn left and go through push double doors going north.

The stairs are in front of you, with the stairs down to your right of the stairs from the roof space.

You go down nine steps, going north. Turn left (180 degrees, south), go down nine steps, going south. Turn left (180 degrees, north) go down ten steps, going north. Turn left (180 degrees, south) go down nine steps, going south. Turn left (180 degrees, north) go down 11 steps, going north. Turn left (180 degrees, south) go down 11 steps, going south to Level 0. Turn left (east) for the exit doors.

The North Fire Exit

At Level 0

The doors, separated by a pillar are outside the Tinto Room.

You go through either push door going northwest, bear right (north). The Fireman’s Lift is now to your right (east) with the call button to your right (south) of the door.

Continue (north), through double push doors into the stairwell. This is signed as a disabled persons muster point. The fire exit itself is at a lower level. The steps going down to the exit are in front of you, to your left of the steps coming down.

From Level 3

The doors are in the north segment of the West Passage, outside Door 7 to the Pentland Auditorium, separated by a pillar. You go through either push door going northwest then bear right (north), the Fireman’s Lift is on your right (east) with the call button to your right (south) of the door.

Continue (north) through double doors to the fire exit stairwell. the steps down to lower levels are directly in front of you, with the steps to the roof space to your right of these.

You go down nine steps, going north. Turn right (180 degrees, south) go down nine steps going south. Turn right (180 degrees, north) go down ten steps, going north. Turn right (180 degrees, south) go down nine steps going south. Turn right (180 degrees, north) go down ten steps, going north. Turn right (180 degrees, south) go down 11 steps, going south, to Level 0. Turn right (180 degrees, north) go down 12 steps, going north. Turn right (180 degrees, south) go down 12 steps, going south to Level -1. Turn rightt (180 deegrees, north) go down nine steps, going north. Turn right (180 degrees, south) go down nine steps, going south to Level -2.

One set of double fire doors, with crash bars are now to your right (west) leading onto the West Approach Road.

The Fireman’s Lift

This is a much smaller lift than the Main (VIP) Lift. The call button is to your right (south) of the door at all levels.

The control panel is on the west side of the lift, to your left as you go in. The buttons are arranged:
