THE MAIN STAIRS |
DESCRIBE ONLINE |
This is the main public stairway within the building, connecting all levels which are available to the Public.
The landings, above Level 0 are semi-circular, with a hand rail that continues around the outside of that space. Alternatively, the rail is broken between flights of steps.
These stairs are on the south side of the building, to your right as you come in through the Main Entrance. Details of the stairwell at each level are included in the description of that level. This page merely describes the flights of steps between levels.
Note that the area immediately to your right as you come in through the Main Entrance is usually blocked by a portable barrier. You'll need to move further into the Strathblane Hall before turning right towards the stairs.
Note also that, as you come in through the Main Entrance, there's a pillar about two metres from the entrance, between the access door and the first (west) revolving door and another pillar about four metres beyond the middle of the two revolving doors.
You go up 11 then 11 steps, going east, to Level -1.
You go up six then ten steps, going west, onto a semi-circular landing. Turn left (180 degrees, east) then go up eight steps, going east, to Level 0.
